Setting the Tone....
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Rustic Park for our annual Back to School Picnic. This is one of my favorite events of the year. I love seeing so many families connect with one another, swap summer stories and share excitement about the year ahead. Hopefully you had a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones!
A huge shout out to Beth Price who helped orchestrate the event, but who also had the brilliant idea to add the movie in the park. Who doesn’t love The Princess Bride??? And what’s a movie without popcorn? Thanks to the generosity of Steve Gatto and the Langens and inthecanyon.com, we were able to enjoy an exciting evening under the stars with our favorite Canyon friends. Thank you to Alyssa Goddard for all of her help leading up to the event. Also, thank you to Leslie Williams and Princess Bride Producer Norman Lear for the truly fabulous raffle basket!! A stuffed ROUS, (Rodent of Unusual Size)... awesome!!!
Did you happen to catch the movie trailer? Due to the brilliance of Booster president Morina Lichstein, parent Chris Moore and editor Silas Orteza, we were able to provide you with a snapshot of the incredible programs and personnel at Canyon that Booster is able to provide. This wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations of our Canyon families. Please help us maintain these programs that make Canyon the most unique and top public school by contributing to our Annual Giving Campaign (http://www.canyoncharter.com/).
Did you get a chance to sample the delicious strawberries provided by Hello Harvest? They were just a small taste of the amazing food provided weekly by this company, delivered right to Canyon! When you join this weekly farm box program, every box you pick up at Canyon raises $1 for the school! (HelloHarvest at (805) 883-6124 or email@example.com.) If that didn't cure your sweet tooth, then hopefully you had a chance to visit the bake sale and grab some sweet treats from our 5th graders, who are already working to raise funds for some of their eagerly anticipated 5th grade events this year.
Finally, we found a blanket and a couple of things that were left behind. They will be in the school lost and found on Monday. Also... someone took home the wrong back back and shoe! If your child went home with two different shoes or an unfamiliar backpack, please bring them to school on Monday.
The year is off to a great start and I think events like this set the tone for us to keep the positivity and camaraderie going throughout the whole school year. Thanks for being a part of our Canyon community. I hope to see everyone Tuesday night for Back to School Night. Please remember that this is an adult only event so be sure to make childcare arrangements for the evening.
Thanks for all of your support in the first few weeks of school. I know it’s going to be a great year for all of us!
