December Update

December break is actually here and it is a good time to reflect on all of the fun and interesting activities we have had so far in Room 5.

In math we have covered place value though the millions, multi-digit multiplication and are finishing up our division unit! Area and perimeter were covered and the students were able to use what they learned to create their own playground designs for our school!

The research projects about people who overcame obstacles or challenges in their lives were amazing and I hope a great learning experience for the students. Hopefully this connected to our ideas about changing mindset as well.

This current unit of study in Language Arts has us using the “power of words” in our writing and in our projects and speeches.

Our field trip to the San Fernando Mission was great and the students had a great time. It was so nice to see them listen and ask pertinent questions as they visited a real mission.

I hope the holiday break leaves us all refreshed and excited to return January 9th! There is a lot more to look forward to in the months to come!

Room 5 - Laura Goldstein

Hello, my name is Laura Goldstein and I am pleased to be part of the Canyon community! I began teaching in 2009, spending the first year in Torrance Unified and the remainder right here in LAUSD. I was born and raised in West Los Angeles, as were my parents and my grandparents. I attended Curtis School for elementary, Harvard-Westlake for both middle school and high school, followed by Boston University for my degree. It was a great experience to live on the east coast and I loved it, however I missed my family. My family lives here and that is important to me, so I decided to move back home when I began my teaching career.

I enjoy teaching because I want to do something that makes me feel positive and helpful every day and every morning. I believe that teaching is a great responsibility and I look forward to each day I get to spend at our great school. Each day I feel exhilarated and appreciate being at such a wonderful school with support from great kids, great parents and great staff.
