Room Parents

Every Canyon classroom has one or two parents who keep the class connected. They pass along what matters, organize the helpers, and make sure your child’s teacher has what she needs.

What room parents do

• Keep the class connected. Maintain the class roster and parent email list, and send updates, reminders and school news through the year.
• Coordinate the helpers. Run the sign-ups for classroom needs, field trips, parties and special events.
• Manage the class fund. Collect contributions, track the balance and pass funds to the teacher as needed.
• Support the teacher. Classroom requests, celebrations, supplies and whatever else comes up.
• Connect the class to Booster. Serve as the liaison for Party Book, Olympics Day, Fiesta and the Book Fairs, and recruit class helpers when a committee needs support.
• Organize Staff Appreciation Week for the class, and collect your teacher’s Favorite Things list at the start of the year.
• Support the yearbook. Send class photos and the class portrait to the Yearbook Committee chair.
• Close out the year. Coordinate grade-level celebrations and class wrap-up activities in the spring.

A note on classroom gifts

Room parents work independently of the Canyon School Booster Club, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and classroom funds are held completely separately from Booster funds. Any contribution to a class fund is voluntary and counts as a personal gift to the teacher for use in the classroom, which means classroom gifts are not tax deductible.
