Directory & Canyon Communications

This page is where Canyon families find each other and where school news lands. Log in for the parent directory, put the Canyon app on your phone, and know where the Chronicle, Canyon News, the calendar and your class group live.

The Parent Directory

Every current Canyon family is listed in the directory, behind the Canyon login, so you can find a classmate's family for a playdate, a carpool or a birthday invitation. Look up a family by name, grade or class, and from the app you can save a contact straight to your phone.

Your listing is yours to shape. From your account, choose Update Directory Information to check your address, phone and email, add your children's grades and teachers, and decide what other families can see. Please keep it current, since the Chronicle and every Booster email go to the address on this record.

The directory is for Canyon families to reach each other and for the school to reach you. Please do not use it for anything commercial. The Terms of Use and Privacy Policy cover the details, including how the map view honors each family's privacy choices.

The Canyon App

The Membership Toolkit app puts the directory, the calendar, sign-ups and Annual Giving in your pocket, with the same email and password you use here. It is also how time-sensitive news reaches you fastest, so please allow notifications when the app asks.

The Canyon Chronicle

Principal Sheard's weekly newsletter arrives every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the inbox of every current Canyon family. It carries the week ahead, reminders, events and volunteer news, and it is the one email to read before Monday.

If it stops showing up, check your spam or Promotions folder first, then make sure the email on your account is the one you read. Every Chronicle and every Booster email is also kept in Past Emails in your account when you are logged in, so nothing is lost if one goes missing. Choose which lists you get in Email Lists and how they reach you in Notifications. Every email also has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Canyon News

Canyon News on this site carries the week's announcements as short posts, one topic each, that you can read on your phone or forward to a grandparent or caregiver. New posts go up through the week, and the home page always shows the latest.

The Canyon Calendar

Every school date, no-school day, enrichment session and Booster meeting lives on the Canyon Calendar. Use Add Canyon to your calendar on that page to subscribe in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook, and new dates show up on your phone on their own.

Class Groups and Message Boards

WhatsApp. Each class has a WhatsApp group run by its room parents, and it is the fastest way to ask a quick question or hear about a change in the day. Your room parents are listed on the Room Parents page, and they will add you.

Message boards. Every class and grade also has a board here on the site, under Messages, where announcements stay put and are easy to find later. Your family is placed in your child's class and grade boards automatically.

Google Group. Some longtime Canyon families still share news in the Canyon Google Group. Ask to join, include your child's name and class so the moderator can verify you, and choose single emails or a daily digest once you are in.

Assemblies and Booster Meetings

The schoolwide assembly is usually on the last Friday of each month at 8:15 a.m., and families are welcome. The Booster Club meeting follows on campus at 8:45 a.m., and it is the best hour of the month to hear what is planned and where a hand is needed. The Local School Leadership Council meets monthly as well. Dates for all three are on the calendar and in the Chronicle.

For urgent announcements the school also sends automated phone messages to the numbers on file with the office, so please pick up when Canyon calls.

LAUSD Parent Portal and Schoology

The LAUSD Parent Portal holds your child's official student record, emergency contacts and attendance, and it is your door into Schoology, where teachers post assignments and grades. New families need a PIN to link each child, and the office at (310) 454-7510 can help once the school year is under way.

Questions and Help

For anything about your child's day in the classroom, your child's teacher is the first person to ask. For the website, your account, the directory or an email that did not arrive, send us a note through the Help and Feedback form or write to info@canyoncharter.com, and a Canyon parent will get back to you.
