After-School Programs

Four programs run on the Canyon campus after the last bell — two that cover the whole afternoon, and two enrichment programs that meet on set days. Open any one below for grades, days, cost and how to sign up.

STAR and ELOP are the two programs that cover the full afternoon. Orchestra Place and Parker-Anderson are run by outside providers, so you enroll and pay them directly rather than through Canyon. If you are not sure which combination works for your family, or whether a child can move between programs on the same afternoon, the school office can help: (310) 454-7510.

Canyon offers after school childcare (known as the STAR Galaxy program) and an after school Spanish language immersion program. There is a fee for STAR.

ELOP: Extended Learning Opportunity Program (Free)

Grades TK–5Until 6:00 p.m.Free

Students in Grades TK–5 may remain on the school grounds for after-school supervised play until 6:00 p.m. This is a free program, however students must have an application on file with the ELOP director to remain with ELOP after school.

Orchestra Place: Instrumental Music & Piano (Fee-Based)

Grades K–5Year-end concertAll levels welcome

Small group instruction in 35–40 minute classes, culminating in a year-end concert. All levels welcome — no experience necessary.

Parker-Anderson Enrichment (Fee-Based)

After-school enrichment activities and programs to help students have fun, stimulate their minds, and teach them new skills. With the motto “Fun Comes First!” PAE educates and entertains through hands-on learning and an abundant array of classes.

TechKids: Game DesignTuesdays, 2:00–3:00 p.m. · Sept 8, 15, 22, 29 and Oct 6, 13, 20, 27 · $154Students learn to design and modify their own arcade-style video games using Infinite Arcade, controlling characters, objects and outcomes as they add features and increase the difficulty.
LEGO RoboticsWednesdays, 3:00–4:00 p.m. · Sept 9, 16, 23, 30 and Oct 7, 14, 21, 28 · $154 plus $10 lab feeStudents build a different project each week and learn the basics of coding through a LEGO Education app, beginning with wheels, axles and levers and progressing to sensors, light matrix and motors.
Rocket ScienceThursdays, 2:00–3:00 p.m. · Sept 10, 17, 24 and Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 · $154 plus $25 lab feeJunior astronauts launch everything from film-canister rockets to water-bottle blasters and hoopster gliders as they travel through the solar system and beyond.

Enroll by Thursday, September 3. All enrollments must be completed online at parker-anderson.org — no cash or check payments are accepted. Classes are cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met, so please sign up early. Check with the school office to find out where the enrichment classes meet on campus.
