Traffic Duty Schedule
Below is the classroom volunteer traffic duty schedule for the year. Find your shift and make sure you have coverage for your assigned time slot.
Every family is asked to fulfill approximately 2–3 shifts of traffic duty during the school year. Working together, we'll make Canyon a safe place for everyone.
If you can't make your assigned shift, please arrange a swap with another family. For the safety of our students and families, shifts should never go uncovered. Specific days and times are also shared directly with your family and posted in the Chronicle each week.
Shift Times
- Morning: 7:45 to 8:15 a.m.
- Afternoon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 2:40 to 3:10 p.m.
- Afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday: 1:35 to 2:05 p.m.
Family slots are assigned about two weeks before your class is up, so watch the Chronicle and check back here. TK families are not assigned traffic duty this year and are always welcome to volunteer any time.

What Your Shift Involves
Traffic duty volunteers are stationed at the drop-off and pick-up zones to keep children moving safely between their cars and the campus gates. Here is what that looks like in practice.
- Arrive a few minutes early so the volunteer on the shift before you can hand off cleanly.
- Morning drop-off: help children out of vehicles at your assigned zone. Kindergarten drops off in front of the kindergarten building, and Grades 1 through 5 drop off at the Library Gate.
- Afternoon pick-up: help escort children to their cars at the Library Gate as each vehicle reaches the front of the line.
- Keep the line moving. Drivers should stay in their vehicles at all times. A parked or empty car stops all traffic behind it and creates a safety hazard.
- Watch for the name placard on the passenger-side dashboard. It is how we identify which child to bring out, so please remind drivers to display it.
- Keep the Red Zone clear immediately to the left of the Library Gate. Cars parked there narrow Amalfi to one lane and block emergency vehicles.
- Never let a child cross between vehicles. Children should reach their car from the curb side only, at the zone.
Traffic flows clockwise around campus at both drop-off and pick-up, entering from East Channel Road. Full driver procedures, zone locations and the bell schedule are on the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures page.
Before Your First Shift
Every Canyon volunteer completes the LAUSD volunteer application once a year and returns it to the school office with current TB results. Please get that in place before your class is up.
