The Upgraded Canyon App Is Live and Works on iOS 27

The Canyon app has a new menu built around what families do each week, and the latest version of Membership Toolkit is now in the App Store and runs on iOS 27.
Open the menu and the Parent Directory, School Calendar, Traffic Duty, Report an Absence, the Cafeteria Menu and Canyon News sit right at the top. My Account keeps your profile, orders and receipts, sign-ups and past Canyon emails together, and you can sign in with Face ID or Touch ID. If the app is already on your phone, update Membership Toolkit in the App Store or Google Play. If it isn't yet, the page below has the download links and a two-minute setup.
Miss Barbara Recognizes Her Summer Readers at Friday's 8:15 a.m. Assembly

Friday's monthly assembly runs from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m., and Miss Barbara will recognize the students who took part in her summer reading program.
The September perfect attendance raffle is drawn at the same assembly, and every student with a perfect month is in it. The Booster meeting follows right after, at 8:45 a.m.
The First Leadership Council Meeting Is Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Room 9

The Local School Leadership Council holds its first meeting of the year Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Room 9.
Families who cannot be on campus can join by Zoom with the link in Sunday's Chronicle. The newly elected parent members will be announced at the meeting. Principal Sheard encourages parents and guardians to attend, and the council meets once a month on Thursday afternoons through the year.

Voting for the parent members of our Local School Leadership Council closes Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
Andrew Ferrone, Houman Sarshar and Rachel Sullivan are on the ballot, and their bios went out with Sunday's Chronicle. Two will be elected as voting members for the 2026-2028 term, and the third will serve as alternate. The ballot is a short Google form that asks you to sign in with a Google account. The new members will be announced Thursday at the first LSLC meeting.
Party Book Launch Is Friday, September 25 and Five Parties Still Need Hosts

The Party Book Launch Party is Friday, September 25 at the Golden Bull, 170 W. Channel Rd in Santa Monica. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and this year's parties are unveiled at 7:00 p.m., claimed in the room first come, first served. Each ticket includes two drinks and appetizers, and the night is adults only.
The lineup already includes a Murder Mystery Dinner, Tacos and Trivia, a Sunset Sail and an Italian dinner with Michelin-starred Chef Luigi Fineo. Co-chairs Valerie Friedrich and Amber Feld are still looking for hosts for Sportfishing, the Daughter Dance, the TK–2nd Grade Easter Egg Hunt, the Son Plus 1 Dance and the Ice Cream Social with Principal Sheard. TerVeer Families Are on Traffic Duty September 21 Through October 2

TerVeer’s class takes over traffic duty for the window starting September 21, and the sign-up is open now.
September 21 is a no-school day, so the first shift is Tuesday, September 22. Mornings run 7:45 to 8:15 a.m., and afternoons are 2:40 to 3:10 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1:35 to 2:05 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. If a shift does not work, trade with another family or find coverage before the day, and ask your room parent if you get stuck.
Friday Is an Early Dismissal and There Is No School Monday, September 21

Friday is an early dismissal ahead of the three-day weekend. Kindergarten is out at 1:40 p.m. and grades 1 through 5 at 1:45 p.m.
Apart from the early release, Friday is a full instructional day and students are expected for all of it. School is closed Monday, September 21, and everyone is back on campus Tuesday, September 22. If your Friday afternoon is usually covered by a program or a sitter, check that the earlier time works.

Former Canyon parent Mina Neuberg is presenting “The Impact of AI on Elementary and Middle School Education: What Parents Need to Know.” It covers what AI is changing in how children learn and research, and what that means for the elementary and middle school years. Drop your child at class and walk over.
Here Are the Key Dates for the 2026-27 School Year

The key dates for 2026-27 are on one sheet, from Back to School Night through the last day of school on June 4. It covers the no-school days, the early dismissals and the dates worth planning around.
Save it or print it for the fridge. The school calendar carries more than this sheet can hold, and you can subscribe so the dates land in the calendar on your phone and update on their own when something changes.
Piano Starts Monday and Orchestra Starts Tuesday

Piano meets on Mondays and orchestra meets on Tuesdays, and both start this week.
If your child is enrolled, the routine holds all year. They drop their instrument in the auditorium before school starts, head to class as usual, then come back to the auditorium after school for their lesson. Nothing gets carried from room to room during the day, and there is nothing extra to sort out at pickup.
