How to Enroll
The Palisades Charter Schools Complex provides for the free, nonsectarian, public education of students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Palisades Charter Schools, as neighborhood schools, give first priority in admission to students who live in its attendance area in the Pacific Palisades community of Los Angeles.
If you live within the boundaries of Canyon Charter Elementary School, please complete the enrollment packet available in the office beginning in mid-March.
Prior to receiving the enrollment packet, you will need to provide the office with the following documents:
- Proof of residence including a property tax statement or lease agreement
- Original copy of child's birth certificate
- Parent/Guardian's identification
- Immunization records
- Utility bill (gas or DWP)
To check if you are zoned for attendance at Canyon School, please click here or view this boundary map.
Students eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) in the 2027-28 school year will have their fourth birthday by September 1, 2027. Birthdays should fall between September 2, 2022 and September 1, 2023.
Parent Tours
Tours begin promptly at 9am and are for adults only. We are not able to accommodate private tour requests.
Tour dates for the upcoming year are:
- November 19, 2026
- December 15, 2026
- January 21, 2027
- February 25, 2027
Non-Residents: The LAUSD Choices Lottery
If your family lives outside Canyon's attendance boundaries, the LAUSD Choices lottery is how you apply to join us. Applications for the 2027-28 school year open October 1 and close November 6, 2026, and the whole process happens online at apply.lausd.net.
The Palisades Complex Schools also provide for the education of non-neighborhood students who wish to attend based on the District's Desegregation or Integration policy. Canyon takes part in that process every year, and many of our current families found their way here through it.
Your Dates for 2027-28
- October 1, 2026: Applications open. You apply online only, at apply.lausd.net.
- November 6, 2026: On-time application deadline. Applications submitted by the end of this day are included in the public random drawing.
- December 1, 2026: Late applications open for families who missed the on-time deadline.
- December 1 to December 18, 2026: Correction window. You can fix material errors on your application, and schools begin preparing their rosters for the drawing.
- January 11 to January 29, 2027: Schools conduct the public random drawing and enter the results with the District.
- February 8, 2027: Selection notifications. Your offers from every Choices program appear in your apply.lausd.net account.
- March 5, 2027: Parent decision deadline. Accept or decline each offer by this date. Any offer left unanswered is changed to declined.
New-to-district families can expect Next Year Enrollment to begin in February, when you submit your enrollment packet to your assigned neighborhood school.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted online only. Create or sign in to your account at apply.lausd.net, add Canyon Charter Elementary to your list of choices, and submit by the end of the day on November 6, 2026. Keep your student application number somewhere you can find it, because you will need it to check your place in line once results post.
Full District guidance on eligibility, priorities and program types lives at choices.lausd.net.
If You Miss the November Deadline
Late applications open December 1, 2026. A late application places your child on the waitlist rather than in the public random drawing, and families do come off that list. Our office contacts families between May and August as seats become available, so a late application is still worth submitting. LAUSD has not yet published a closing date for the late window, and we will post it here as soon as the District does.
After the Drawing
Results are posted online once the drawing is held, and you will need your student application number to view your place on the list. Offers appear in your apply.lausd.net account on February 8, 2027, and you have until March 5, 2027 to accept or decline. If a seat opens later in the spring or over the summer, our office will call you directly.
Questions
Please feel free to reach out to the Canyon office at info@canyoncharter.com or (310) 454-7510. For questions about the application itself, your account or your place in line, LAUSD's Choices team is the right first call at (213) 241-4177.
If the number of students who wish to attend a Palisades Charter Complex School exceeds the school's capacity or the capacity of students that can be accommodated at any grade level, then the admission of new students is determined by a public random drawing [Education Code 47605(d)(2)(B)]. The random drawing for determining admission priority shall take into account the admission and enrollment priorities outlined in Canyon's charter.
